Sacsayhuaman

Sacsayhuaman, also known as "la fortaleza" played an important role in Inca rituals and activities.  Its specific function is unknown, but the markings and drawings on some of its stones show that is was of great importance to the Inca people.  Nowadays an important part of the annual festival of the sun or "Inti Raymi" is played out here.

At and near Sacsayhuaman we met some nice people of Quechua descent.

After visiting Sacsayhuaman we stopped at an alpaca clothing store where we made some purchases.  (Yes...I did buy the hat.)
