The convent and church of Santo Domingo was built in 1539 upon the remains of the Inca Temple of the Sun or "Coricancha".
Views of the outside of the convent during preparations for Cuzco's Anniversary Celebrations.
The main cloister of the convent and views of the tower.
Inca descendants wearing traditional Inca dress, standing in the cloister.
Our group walking through the ruins of the Coricancha.
Notice the incline on the vertical sides of the Inca windows, doorways, and even the outer walls of the ruins. The angles are all 13 degrees from being perpendicular to the ground. Is it coincidence that Perú is located 13 degrees south of the equator?
Stones used in the construction of the Coricancha and stones used for sacrificial purposes.
