El Canal de Panamá

Click on an image below to see it in its original size.

50 miles long, the Panama Canal connects the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.  It has three sets of locks (Miraflores, Pedro Miguel, and Gatún), two of which we visited.

The Miraflores locks.

A "Panamax" vessel (the largest that can pass through the locks) passing through the locks. Notice the tight fit in the center photo.

Ashley, Julie, and I atop the observation deck at the Miraflores locks.

On our way to the Gatún locks, we stopped and were able to see a sloth (l) and a howler monkey (r).
